ITINERARY
Your unforgettable adventure begins the day before the tour! At 7:00 PM, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in La Paz and head to the bus station. At 8:00 PM, we board the bus to Uyuni, arriving at 5:00 AM the next morning. Once in Uyuni, we’ll pick you up from the bus station and give you some free time to grab breakfast before the tour begins.
DAY 1: UYUNI - INCAHUASI ISLAND
At 10:30 AM, our journey starts with a visit to the Train Cemetery, a fascinating historical site filled with relics of 19th-century machinery. After 30 minutes, we’ll arrive in Colchani, a small village known for its salt production, where you can shop for unique salt crafts or textiles made from llama and alpaca wool.
Get ready for a breathtaking view of the Uyuni Salt Flats—one of the most stunning natural wonders on Earth. With over 10,000 square kilometers of white salt, you’ll witness the Salt Piles (pyramids of salt built by locals to dry and process salt) and the Eyes of the Salt Flats, where saltwater flows through natural conduits, creating incredible holes in the salt crust. Afterward, we’ll visit the first and only Salt Hotel (now a museum), where you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch.
Next, we’ll head to Isla Incahuasi (also known as Fish Island for its fish-like shape). This unique island is home to giant cacti that rise more than 10 meters high, and stunning petrified coral rock formations. The panoramic view of the salt flats is spectacular, perfect for unforgettable photos. In the afternoon, we’ll reach Coquesa, a small town nestled at the foot of the impressive Tunupa Volcano, where we’ll spend the night.
DAY 2: HIGHLAND LAGOONS AND THE RED LAGOON
After breakfast, we’ll continue our adventure to the Red Lagoon (Laguna Colorada). Along the way, we’ll pass by the Ollague Volcano (5,865 meters above sea level) and a series of stunning high-altitude lagoons: Cañapa, Hedionda, Chiarcota, Honda, and Ramaditas. These lagoons are home to flamingos, adding to the already incredible scenery.
We’ll make a stop along the road for lunch and then head toward the Siloli Desert, known for its unique rock formations, including the famous Stone Tree, shaped by the wind’s erosion over the centuries.
Next, prepare for a truly unforgettable sight: the Red Lagoon, so named for the reddish hue of its waters. This lagoon is located within the Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve, a wildlife haven.
In the evening, we’ll arrive at Huayllajara, a small village near the lagoon, where we’ll stay overnight in a simple, shared accommodation. It’s the only option in the area, but it adds to the charm and authenticity of the experience.
DAY 3: GREEN LAGOON AND RETURN TO UYUNI
On the third day, we’ll depart early in the morning, before sunrise, to catch a glimpse of the Sol de Mañana geysers, fumaroles located in the volcanic zone (4,950 meters above sea level). Afterward, we’ll head to the Polques Hot Springs, where the water temperature ranges from 28°C to 30°C, perfect for a relaxing soak to start the day.
Next, we’ll visit the Green Lagoon (Laguna Verde), located at the foot of Licancabur Volcano (4,350 meters above sea level). The lagoon’s distinctive green color is caused by the high magnesium content in the geological formations in the area.
After the lagoon visits, we’ll head back to Uyuni, stopping for lunch along the way and passing through the Valley of Rocks, where massive red rock formations stand tall, smoothed by wind erosion. We’ll also pass through charming local towns like Villa Alota, Kulpinaka, and San Cristóbal.
We’ll arrive in Uyuni around 6:00 PM, and by 7:30 PM, you’ll be at the Uyuni bus station to catch your bus back to La Paz.
